"The US wants" miscasts one set of power against other kinds of "the US" which doesn't want. The article actually says this. Exactly who wins and loses in this model depends on how much resilience different groups have. I can believe that in transition many many working poor through middle classes will suffer in the short term.

If this devalues the Chinese debt holdings I could that's in the plan. There's been huge concerns stated across different administrations they could call the cards in.

Not the greatest at economics, but the 'Implement tariffs -> market crash -> rollback tariffs -> market recovers' cycle immediately makes me skeptical. This might work once, but subsequently, investors will simply anticipate future tarrifs (implementations or rollbacks) and stop responding to them immediately. We've already seen this when the stock market didn't react positively to the rollback of Mexican tariffs.

If you assume that everything here is facts, like, just take everything in the article at face value, it has a major issue. Trump cannot be re-elected, even if a republican is elected as the next president there is no guarantee that republican would be like Trump as opposed to a more Bush globalist kind of republican. And if the democrats get their act together, you could see a democrat president recreating all of the closed down government agencies. And so, even if this policy worked and was the greatest policy ever to be created, it will be circumvented by the new king-elect that america chooses in a few years. This, in my opinion, ultimately shows how the american system circumvents democracy and representation and is likely why there are so many difficulties.

The author asks, "if I were doing the things that Trump is doing, why would I be doing them?" But this cannot be the right question.

This is far too desparate for a 4d chess view of the administration. And, frankly, I don't see the evidence for that. And it remains frustrating to see what is essentially full blown sane washing of the blatantly corrupt approaches being taken.
